Salvation is Eternally Exciting
Today’s reading: Psalm 51:1-12
The last line in today’s reading is worth memorizing and repeating daily. (Maybe several times a day.)
“Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit.”
It’s frightening to realize that I often find myself bored by preaching or prayer or going to church or even reading The Bible. (And it’s frustrating to realize that others do too — as I see, for example, in the recent decline in audience numbers for this site, for which these devotionals, against my original intentions, have become the only new content for several months. In June, this site averaged 411 different visitors each day, so far in June, that number is 359. But, alas, I can control only my thoughts on such matters, so I’ll not expound upon that frustration.)
Like David in today’s Psalm, I ask God to help me feel joy — not boredom, or even numbness — at reminders of my salvation. And I ask God for help in sustaining that joy eternally, so that I never again feel annoyed at doing His work.
And, because I am human — and an active participant in The World, which is generally very bored and annoyed by all that God does — I know I need to request this help often. So I will make that effort.
Thanks be to God for another glorious Sunday! I can’t wait to get to church this morning. I hear my great friend Gary is going to be our guest preacher today. I am sure his message will be an uplifting, joyful, event!
