Judgement Begets Judgement

Today’s reading: Matthew 7:1-5

As I pondered today’s reading just now, I came upon a grand idea for saving humanity today.

I decided to spend this afternoon putting an end to all of the judging that I see each day on the internet.  All I have to do is just post this line from Jesus in response to as much on-line judgement as I can:

“Why do you see the speck in your neighbor’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye?”

I will start with Yahoo.com, where the flood of judgmental remarks in the comments section of news stories too often makes for a depressing read. Then I’ll move to Facebook, where judging has become a national pass-time. Then Twitter. Then maybe even Google + And by midnight, the message will be viral, and all on-line judging will have ended. The world will have a glorious victory for Christ!

Wait.

It can’t be that simple, can it?

I need to re-think this.

No, doing that would just make me come across as a righteous jackass.

Turns out judgement isn’t a good tool for ending judgement.

Thanks be to God for his willingness to withhold judgement on my many flaws. May I remember to give my fellow men that same, blessed, consideration.
