Jesus Wasn’t a Loser After All
Today’s reading: 1 Corinthians 1:26-31
It is deeply inspiring to me to remember that, by the world’s standards, Jesus Christ was a loser.
Sure, he was a carpenter, but I don’t remember hearing of anyone actually hiring him for a job. Sure he had charisma, but he never capitalized on it by running for office or setting himself up in business.
And look at what happened in the end! Jesus marched into Jerusalem as a hero! His great friend Judas knew that he would parlay all of that support and lead a glorious revolt against the Romans.
But no. Jesus wouldn’t fight — or even condemn.
And he got what all losers like him deserve: eternal glory and victory.
Thanks be to God for the blessed irony of Our Savior’s glorious life. May I (and all men) develop the wisdom to follow Jesus’ unworldly way forever.
