God’s Love is Self-Fulfilliing
Today’s reading: Genesis 18:1-15
Today’s reading is a reminder of the benefits of hospitality — for the giver.
Abraham offered grand hospitality to a stranger and God gave Sarah and him a child — when they were far too old to have humanly hope of that.
This is the playing out of a simple, but eternally glorious, formula that God offers even to us, who are already blessed beneficiaries of the New Covenant: Give, and you shall receive.
The story of Sarah’s human (i.e. un-trusting) reaction to the news offers yet more evidence that the New Covenant is essentially the same as the Old: God offers us love, even when we do not deserve it.
Thanks be to God for the eternal wisdom of His love, which so beautifully fulfills itself through our hospitality (and other good works).
